MAISON GIRAUD

WHERE:  Maison Giraud, located on Swarthmore Avenue, off Sunset in the Pacific Palisades.

The Chef Alain Giraud, was formerly at Citrus, Bastide, Lavande and Anisette.

Maison Giraud is currently written up as  one of the top 10 new restaurants in LA by Los Angeles Magazine.

We went early on a Wednesday night (5:30 pm, just when it opens for dinner) with our fabulous friend, Kerry.  It was quiet, easy and delicious.  We loved it.

MOTHER SAYS:

Kerry and I split the salmon as well as the chicken.  The salmon was surrounded by lentils and a tube of roasted mashed potatoes.  The flavors melted in my mouth, the salmon was cooked to perfection.

I also had to eat the fries from Charlotte’s plate that were served in a tall glass.  I have to say, the French do fries best.

The apple tart was my favorite, perfectly caramelized with a dollop of creme, truly mouth watering.

The kids menu was quite impressive, with options such as butter lettuce salad, vegetable soup, salmon filet and croque monsieur.

DAUGHTER SAYS:

I ordered the pearl pasta with butter and cheese, it looked like corn but tasted like pasta.  It was really good, I liked the flavor and it’s cheesiness.  It was served with salty, crunchy fries.

I also tried the chicken liver pate – YUM!!  My Mom wouldn’t even try it, but I loved it on the bread.

The vegetable soup had lots of chunky vegetables, the broth is green and yum, is it broccoli all chopped up?!

I would give this restaurant more than a 10, I would give it a million, they have my favorite food, pasta and my favorite dessert, whatever it is called…shilamatoles (profiteroles).

OVERALL RATING:

LOCATION/AMBIANCE: 7 out of 10 – nice, small upscale dining.  The outdoor seating is a bit bland, but inside is warm and simple.

SERVICE: 9 out of 10 – very accommodating for children in the early dining hours.  The staff was so pleasant. We loved every minute of it.

FOOD: 9 out of 10 – absolutely delicious, classic French.  From the items on the kids menu to dessert, each bite made us stop and enjoy the flavors.

OVERALL: 8.5 out 10 – we had the perfect time, great food and great service.  It is a small restaurant, so it is better to go before it gets crowded. On certain nights they have a prefix menu, so call ahead.
